Sara Bologna is a designer based in Milan (b.1996).
She conceives projects on different scales, from object to installation, venturing into the liminal zones of the design practice, testing and questioning its boundaries.
Her research focuses on the anthropological and intangible aspects of material culture, and develops in parallel on a theoretical and practical level. Her imagery is permeated with rituals, symbols, graffiti from the creases of pre-history, fragments of poems and grimoires. All these inspirations are deconstructed and reconstructed based on iconographic, semantic and historical insight.
With her work, she addresses the urge to recover a profoundly human dimension of life, through the rediscovery of its ritual dimensions and the valorization of artisanal production.
She curates design-related projects with attention to the cross-contamination of the discipline with craftsmanship and contemporary arts.
She is a collaborator and lecturer at Politecnico di Milano, where she works on educational and design research projects.
She is part of the first generation of designers of co/rizom - incubator of crafts, with a project dedicated to the ceramic and iconographic tradition of Grottaglie (TA). Her Atanor vase was included in the design selection curated by Domitilla Dardi for the iconic Milanese concept store and gallery 10CorsoComo. With the social enterprise Nuova Libbaneria Mediterranea (Maratea, PZ) she is developing a collection of furniture aimed at reviving the local crafts heritage while paying homage to women's labour. The project was selected by the Permanent Observatory of Design of ADI (Associazione Disegno Industriale) to be included in the ADI Design Index 2024 - Compasso d'Oro selection.
